Cars in German Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Officers mentioned they were contacted by a individual who found a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report initial examinations show the liquid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.

A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
